Group Reading – Marley & Me

    The name of the book: Marley & Me

    In the preface, the author (John Grogan) has mentioned the dog (Saint Shaun) which is his honest friend to him in his childhood. John talked about how his father and he choose the dog from a farm.  His father also taught him to pick a dog which is not timid, so he asked the author to try rattling the cage and see which ones aren’t afraid. This is the way of choosing a perfect dog and then they picked Shaun which is a smart and affected dog. His family and he adored this dog; however, the dog became old and died. Although they felt sad, they have still to continue their life. After many years later, John grows up and married Jenny. They were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. After killing the plant which be nurtured by the author’s wife, they try to have a puppy in order to training the “Baby Thing.” Jenny found there was news that is about the Pets-dogs in the newspaper, and then she try to persuade John to buy a dog. Therefore, they met the cute dog-Marley and then they start changing their original lives.

    Good start, Shirley. The author mentions that Shaun was an affectionate dog; did he write anything yet about what kind of dog the new one is?

    Thank you for giving the comment. Actually, the author did not talk about the new dog’s characteristic in Ch1, so I think it will be fun later.
